The Position

Intellijoint is seeking a Patent Engineer to grow our in-house IP capabilities, capture innovation and drive the growth of our patent portfolio. You will drive invention disclosure volume, manage the patent portfolio, and inform strategy. Being a systems level thinker, analytical, independently productive and driven are all essential keys to success.

Position

Main Duties:

Drive invention disclosure volume

  • Improve the volume and quality of patent applications through individual contributions and process improvements
  • Draft patent applications collaboratively (written descriptions and drawings), leveraging external firms and internal technical resources as required

Manage portfolio

  • Maintain the patent database
  • Create and manage analytics and metrics
  • Track key dates, action items, costs, estimates, etc.
  • Track patent-related contracts

Inform strategy

  • Understand strategic and commercial relevance (current and potential) of portfolio
  • Regularly develop and display reports to the CTO
  • Conduct patent searching and analysis
  • Conduct competitive analysis
  • Understand current products and the roadmap

Required Skills

Skills and Experience to Enable Success:

  • Degree in a technical field (masters and PhD are considered assets)
  • Career interest or experience in IP
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, across all levels of an organization and with key, external stakeholders
  • Strong technical background including one or more of the following: software, algorithms, sensors, medical imaging, robotics and optimization
